An estimated three hundred thousand people in the this country suffer from MS, but I didn’t know much about this debilitating & progressive disease until our sister was diagnosed with it. My sister Sheila was twenty-seven when she found out why she had numbness & tingling in her extremities. MS is a disease of the nervous system that affects the brain & spinal cord. My sister properly deals with sensory & vision problems, balance problems, fatigue & tremors, but there is currently not a known cure for MS. If left untreated, it can lead to paralysis, epilepsy & mental & emotional problems. She has tried different kinds of medications to slow the progression, prevent relapse & control symptoms. She has been on antidepressants, anxiolytics & muscle relaxants but they have caused her nausea, vomiting, back pain & flu-like symptoms. And if she continues taking these prescriptions, she’s looking at potential liver & nerve problems, hair loss & more. I have researched the chance of treatment with cannabinoids for her. More & more studies are proving that cannabinoids are very effective at inhibiting inflammation, reducing spasticity, controlling neuropathic pain, & even addressing the other symptoms associated with MS. Plus there are very minimal side effects. Now Sheila is noticing an amazing improvement in her health & well-being through using a combination of THC & CBD. These many cannabinoids work together to combat her symptoms; while THC kills proinflammatory cells, CBD suppresses the function of the white blood cells which cause serious inflammation. Plus, the CBD lessens the psychoactive effects of THC. That way, my sister isn’t dealing with any high sensation.
